Library Update

The library committee, headed by Ann Lewis, has completed their effort of organzing and shelving the WCPA's book collection.  Additionally, the bookshelves were given new life with a fresh coat of paint by Carol Stockmal.  Ann, Carol, Judy Ferrara and John Gaumond unboxed every book, sorted it by category and then by author, and arranged the books.  There's even a little (very little really) room for some careful additions.

We are grateful for their many hours of work in sometimes cold and dusty circumstances.  Join us at our next board meeting on January 3rd to check out the library.
Twin City Poetry Project

Nina Lewis, the Worcestershire (UK) Poet Laureate reached out to the WCPA earlier this year to see if our members might like to participate in a cross-Atlantic project.  The idea is to link two poets together from Worcester MA and Worcester UK.  Poets will be paired up, exchange poems, and write a poem in response to the one received.  The original and resulting poems will be combined in an online magazine.  We'd could also include some photos of Worcester, or art work related to the poems that are submitted.

As Nina wrote in her proposal, "This would be (in the world of continual boundaries) a great way to unite through poetry."  If you are interested in participating please contact the WCPA coordinator, Rodger Martin, before December 31st.
Nominations are open for the 2018 Stanley Kunitz Medal through March 1, 2018.  The Stanley Kunitz Award is presented annually to a person with a strong Worcester County connection who best exemplifies Stanley Kunitz’s life-long commitment to poetry and poets.  The award recognizes the total commitment to poetry as Kunitz lived it:  teaching poetry, mentoring poets, speaking poetry, publishing poetry, and supporting organizations which nurture poetry.
